This project explores the historical thinking concept of historical significance through a Grade 10 inquiry activity focused on the 1970 Citizens Plus (Red Paper). Using a photograph of Harold Cardinal and excerpts from the document, students will analyze Indigenous responses to the 1969 White Paper and examine the lasting impacts of government policy on Indigenous communities. Through guided primary source analysis, students develop critical thinking skills by exploring perspective and ongoing relevance while building a deeper understanding of Indigenous reconciliation in Canada.
