This project asks students to investigate primary sources related to the events of 9/11 using historical thinking concepts and critical thinking skills. Primary sources such as photos, videos and newspapers provide direct evidence into the events of September 11th, 2001 and can help history students gain insights about the past and understand different perspectives and experiences. Students will consider the speaker, occasion, audience, purpose and subject of each primary source. Through this historical activity, students will learn that primary sources are not simply “facts,” but interpretations shaped by perspective, emotion, and circumstance. This project encourages deeper historical thinking and understanding of 9/11 and its impacts on individuals, communities, and the world by investigating evidence from the past.
