The mission of our Take Action program involved helping the Fredericton and Miramichi SPCA branches. Both the Miramichi and Fredericton SPCA’s are not-for-profit organizations and registered charities that are fully funded by donations. This being said, our donations allow these important organizations to continue to operate and provide an essential and often overlooked service to the animals in New Brunswick. It came to our attention that the SPCAs were in dire need of both money and pet items. In being pet lovers ourselves, we quickly realized that our pets were very fortunate to have loving homes. Not only were they taken care of well, they were spoiled. This is where our idea of donating our extra food, treats, toys or other pet items, that were not being used, or could be spared, began. We soon learned that we were not the only pet crazed owners with a million toys for just one or two pets. We knew this was an opportunity for us to take action for this social concern. We decided to work with these two SPCA locations because they are where we are doing our practicum placements and saw merit in helping a local cause
