As a teacher, my greatest concern is for children. As I was reading a chapter entitled, “Teaching for Hope” in the textbook The Anthology of Social Studies by Roland Case and Penney Clark, the thought came to me that my greatest concern about children is that all children need to feel valued. So many children around the world feel hopeless and feel that no one truly cares about them. This bothered me and still does and always will. How do I help children everywhere to feel valued? It seemed like such a huge undertaking. I did not know where to begin and then I read the quote by Mother Theresa which states, “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one.” I can do that, I thought. I decided that I wanted to do something to show the students in my community that they were all valued. My thoughts and ideas then continued to the fact that not only children need to feel valued, but all people great or small. What is my concern? To come up with a plan whereby people old and young feel valued.
