The Primary school System of Education came about as a result of the need for some sort of formal education for the descendants of African slaves and Indian Indentured labourers in the Post Emancipation era. Lord Harris, the then Governor of Trinidad was instrumental in setting up the first set of primary schools. As time went by, various religious bodies started schools to promote their religion along the established primary school curriculum.
